Can Jian Jian Fa ("The Swordplay of the Crippled Sword") is a swordplay originating from the Qin Dynasty. The creator of this swordplay, Can Jian, was a wandering swordsman who fell in love with the daughter of a general of the state of Yen, Fei Xue. Together they practised their swordsplay, eventually settling on a style deriving its precision and strength of spirit from the practice of calligraphy.

Can Jian and Fei Xue attempted to assassinate the ruler of the state of Qin, who survived this assassination to become the first emperor to unify China. It is whispered that Can Jian had abandoned this assassination attempt at the last moment when he finally understood the highest level of his swordplay, foregoing his personal need for vengence to be at peace with the world.

Embodying the highest ideals of swordsmanship, Can Jian Jian Fa embodies the "sharp" and "precise" aspects of chi. Even at the lowest level, Can Jian Jian Fa can empower just about any straight, long object with the cutting force of a sword. As one progresses through the three ideals of swordsmanship, one eventually abandons the sword in his hand, and finally, the sword altogether to be one with all under heaven.

1st Dot

"Jian Ren He Yi" / "剑人和一"

The user gets +defence and +called shot when making an attack a sword. The user also gets +added effect dice equal to half his technique rounded up. For the purposes of this technique, any straight (but not necessarily rigid) object approximately the size of a sword, or a portion of any sword acts as "a sword".

2nd Dot

When making 5 successes on an attack roll, the user may regain 1 willpower.

3rd Dot

"Shou Zhong Wu Jian, Jian Zai Xin Zhong" / "手中无剑, 剑在心中"

By spending 1 willpower, the user may apply his 1st dot technique even if he doesn't fulfil the prerequisite. The user may add 3 dice to his attack as normal for spending a willpower.

4th dot

User gains +composure equal to the number of dots in this technique (and consequently willpower).

5th dot

"Shou Zhong Wu Jian, Xin Zhong Ye Wu Jian" / ""手中无剑, 心中也无剑

By spending 1 willpower, the user may engage a target in a contested Resolve + Composure roll. If the user gains the most successes, the target may not attack the user first. If the user chooses to attack the target, the target may attack the user. However, the user may designate a number of dice equal to this technique as '9 again' dice before the attack is rolled.
